McAfee: Intel will not include chip-based antivirus

Early last year, rumors circulated that Intel soon developed a hardware-based antivirus that will be embedded in some of their products. Now, McAfee CEO David DeWalt has rejected these rumors and stated that Intel is not going to add antivirus program on its products. David does not deny the fact that Intel will add some unique security technology for its product, but this will only allow for better integration between software and hardware.

"We do not invest anything into the product chip. Thing we do is take advantage of existing features with McAfee technology to secure a way that has never been done before, "said David DeWalt, McAfee chief executive was quoted as saying in an interview published Xbit Labs.

Knowingly or not, Intel has been providing innovative security capabilities into the hardware. David kept talking about the threats facing today's computing systems and further states that the creation of trust in a much lower level of IT security issues could help protect the engine much better.

This rumor began in late January, an Intel representative suggested to incorporate hardware-based antivirus solutions in the company's products. This will be used to defend the system against zero-day attacks and also to increase the speed of the detection process. The report also encouraged by the fact that at the end of last year Intel has completed acquisition of McAfee, which specializes in the development of an antivirus program. >
